EOTC using Schoolbridge

Image
There is a new EOTC Management System at Hagley which is aligned with best practice and will make our EOTC trips easier and safer.  You can now plan your EOTC events, and generate permission slips to be emailed home automatically using SchoolBridge . SchoolBridge is tethered to Kamar and you can log in using your Microsoft school login details. To access SchoolBridge, either click the link above to open it in your web browser, or go to the whole staff team and click the EOTC Submission tab: Planning an EOTC Event: SchoolBridge is both a workflow tool, and a platform for addressing risk management. As you follow the process, you can submit an application for an EOTC event, which will automatically request approval from the EOTC coordinator (and if necessary, the Board). It will also forward your trip info to be reflected in the Kamar calendar.  The homepage will look similar to this: To create an application for an EOTC event, start by clicking on 'Staff Forms' You will find yo...

Using Stream to Record Up Front Teaching

Image
Often, the teaching you do at the front of the class, explaining tasks and content, can be something you end up repeating a lot for late or absent students.  If you know you are about to deliver some important information, it can be handy to video yourself so that students can refer to that content later.  Use the nine dots at the top left on your Office 365 webpage and find Microsoft Stream. In the top bar, you should see Create and Record screen or video By Clicking on the dropdown menu Screen and Camera , you can change what you are displaying: a window, yourself and a window, or just video of yourself. I just set my laptop's webcam aiming at myself and deliver instructions and info to the class as I normally would. Once you have finished, click stop, and you will find the completed video under My Content  in Stream. Post the link in your class team when you are ready (it works just like a YouTube link).

Hybrid Learning at Hagley College

Image
Students who are isolating and not unwell are expected to continue learning via accessing work on their class Team. There are several ways to do this including using the Posts section of the class Team, or creating an Assignment. Teachers can also use the Class Notebook to distribute a page to the students notebook with what has been or is going to be covered that lesson or week: Try to think of the students who are not in the class in front of you first. Can the main learning activities still be completed while away from school or at a different time? While not applicable to every lesson, the example above enables all students to learn and keep up with what is happening in class even if they are not at school.  To distribute a page into each student's notebook use the distribute page  function in the class notebook. Click here for details. You may like to distribute a page with today's date as the title and distribute the page to a meaningful section within the student...

Making Video Calls more engaging for your classes

Image
Video calls are designed to check in with students, ask about their well being, and the overwhelming feedback from students is that they must gain value from being present in the call. While listening to you and watching the screen is important, students need to be active and engaged in learning during the video call.  1. Using Forms for a quiz or survey.  Forms involve students contributing to either a survey or a quiz . There are instructions here on how to create a Form and once you have the link to share, you can paste this in to the meeting chat for students to complete during the Video Call. 2. Contribute to a shared file.  To enable students to work in the same place at the same time, you may like to create a Word or OneNote file in the Files section of your class Team. Remember not to put the file in the Class Materials folder, as this folder is read only for students.  You may like to create a table for students so they know where they are expected to work ...
